Sunset Campground, Lake Pillsbury, CA
For the umpteenth year in a row (Bob and I can't really remember when it started), we'll be holding our wonderful little get-together at Lake Pillsbury in the Mendocino National Forest. The MNF is unique amongst national forests in that it is not crossed by a single paved road. All routes to the lake involve at least ten miles of dirt road. While the conditions of the roads vary depending on which direction you're coming from, in general they are very well groomed and suitable for any streetbike. If you're unfamiliar with the area, I suggest you contact me for riding route suggestions.
This is a no-frills, back-to-basics motorcycle campout. Parking is limited, so please make every attempt to ride your motorcycle rather than drive a car. Space is limited to 35 persons, so please contact me in advance to reserve a spot if you'd like to attend. There's no registration fee, but we usually split the cost of the campsite (typically about $6/person). While there is a small country store ten miles away that sells expensive beer and limited groceries, your nearest source for most supplies is a good ways away, so plan on packing all your needs for the weekend on your motorcycle. I usually make a big pot of my award winning chilli for the group on Saturday night, but you're on your own for other meals.
Pit toilets and no showers, but the lake is right by the campsite and is usually wonderful for swimming. Local riding is terrific for all kinds of bikes, but GSers and dual-sport riders will have a particularly good time.
