Dear ABC, I am in the process of buying my first BMW and I can hardly wait. What might be the top 10 considerations for an airhead. For instance, I am looking at a 1983 R100RT. Any suggestions, comments, observations and general wisdom. Jeff Emmons, Atlanta, Ga.

I have a few questions that I hope you can help me with. First, I purchased a BMW and am unsure of it's lineage. I always thought that it is a 1981 R100R, but I can't find anything about that particular model anywhere. I also have a 1981 R100RT and the bikes are almost identical except for the obvious fairings and luggage. When I did research, the closest I found was an R100RS but again, it has the cafe style fairing. Did they have an '81 R100R or is this bike a different model without it signature extras?

Second question. When I purchased the bike from its previous owner, I was told that it had an aftermarket fairing that the owner would attach. I told him to go ahead with the understanding that the guy would have to remove the front turn signal stalks...not in any traditional way but with a hack saw. Now I'm riding it without the fairing and am unable to find replacements for the original brackets that mount the turn signals to the bike. Does anyone know where I can get something to replace the brackets? So far I've only been able to find mounts that clamp onto the frame for Harleys and other cruisers.

I am also putting an 'S' fairing on my '83 R100 and need a good detailed photo of where the fairing mounts to the handlebars or???.

Help?
