"You are not authorized to view this resource." error PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 19 November 2006

" You are not authorized to view this resource.
You need to login.
"

This error happens when you try to access a page when you aren't logged in.  If you think you are logged in -- you aren't.  ABC# will remain in the "Who's Online" section for a period of time after you close your browser, or if there is a problem with cookies.

This confusion can happen if you, a firewall, or a security program like Symantec becomes overly paranoid and disabled cookies.  This can also happen if you are using AOL, click here for that problem.

It's been 5 years, and this still isn't fixed. Reminds me of a company that has never admitted there might be a problem with its driveshafts.

Whats the deal? What do I have to do to get Authorized?

Posted by Terry Baldwin, on 10/20/2010 at 21:28

Just read the articles in Dec. '09 Airmail by Jim Howland and David Cushing about membership and website issues so I'm here to see whether this problem has been fixed. It hasn't. Some pages (such as this one) are accessible, others aren't. I've tried various machines and browsers, turned off the firewall, cookies are enabled, etc. Today's experiment: while logged in I saved a bookmark to the Site Instructions page. Then I logged out, closed the browser and restarted it. I clicked the bookmark and got the 'Not Authorized' message, proving that that page is protected, not merely hidden, and is able to authenticate me when I'm logged in.
