ABC Web Site Hacked? No. was created by 8166
On 7/9/2016 a subscriber to the AirList posted to that list that the Airheads Beemer Club web site had been hacked. He came to that conclusion after Norton Antivirus running on his PC issued a malware warning. The ABC web team contacted the poster and after examining the warning concluded that the malware did not originate from the ABC web site. This was easy enough to do, since the warning contained the IP address of the malicious site and it was not the same as the ABC web site IP address.

After further interaction with the poster, he conceded that the malware did not come from the ABC web site, now saying it came from a set of search results delivered by the ABC web site. In response to the initial report, the webmasters had already scanned the site and had found no malware or virus files of any type. Since the ABC search engine only delivers URLs from the ABC web site, we concluded that the poster's second conclusion was also in error. He then offered that he thought he'd used the ABC search engine, but couldn't be sure it wasn't some other tool. Had it been, the list of returned URLs could have contained any link on the web, including those leading to malicious sites. That concluded the webmaster's investigation of this report.

This incident does point out the necessity to be vigilant when using the Internet. Users are free to post URLs in the ABC Forum, and we have no way of vetting that those links are safe. Even if they were at one time, there is no guarantee that the pages they refer to have not subsequently been corrupted. Same for links included in Technical Articles and other content. So stay alert, keep your anti-virus software up to date, and please contact the ABC webmasters if you notice any unusual behavior or activity associated with this web site.

We've posted many times to the AirList that the webmasters do not regularly monitor traffic there, as the AirList is no longer affiliated with the Airheads Beemer Club and we have our hands full just keeping things on an even keel here. So again, notify the webmasters by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to report any problems. No one on the AirList can address the problem, and posting ABC web site related issues there only serves to stir up concerns that, as in this case, are very likely to be unfounded.
