Hello fellow AIRHEADS,

Longtime lurker, I just joined the community today. My 1988 R100GSPD Bumblebee has remained stock for 27 years of ownership, but I never took the beast too far off road. Pick it up 4x in sand or mud and you will start looking for weight savings...

DURABOOST lithium ion battery shows 13.3V at the terminals. Rev to 3000 and the voltage spikes all over the place. 28V 30V? Scrambled numbers hard to read on multimeter. Collective wisdom here says it's the VR.

Yesterday, my AIRHEAD friend emailed this same question to you experts, and the team answered the call! "BP", Dave F. and others responded to my pal via AIRMAIL, and steered me in the right direction.

Thank you for the quick responses and suggestions for a solution. Voltage Regulator replacement in the mail.

Hi everyone,

1974 BMW R90S

I’m looking to do a full teardown and restoration, and while I want to do the heavy lifting myself, I’m looking for an experienced Airhead mentor in the Los Angeles / South Bay area to guide me through the process.

Being a '74, I know there are some year-specific nuances (the switchgear, the five-speed trans quirks, the Dell'Ortos) that I’d prefer not to learn the hard way. I’m a beginner. Never done this. I just need the 'Airhead wisdom' to ensure this classic stays period-correct and mechanically sound.

If you’ve restored an R90S before and wouldn't mind a 'student' looking to get their hands greasy, I’d love to connect. I’m happy to host at my place or bring the bike to you. Coffee, lunch, and deep appreciation provided.

The current rotor on my '92 GSPD is an aftermarket "floating rotor". Two other bikes of mine also have this rotor and they seem to be great. However, the one on the PD has a lot of FLOAT! It's to the point that it rattles when going down a bumpy road. While at the recent 2026 Super Tech, another attendee relayed that the rivets used to hold that rotor on are made of aluminum and do wear out, allowing for the play I'm experiencing. His recommendation was to replace it before it became dangerous.

My inquiry here is, has anyone tried the Sieberock Big Front Brake Rotor Kit for the R100GSPD? I'm sure replacing the existing one with another of the same would be just fine. But, in doing some research, I came across this kit that increases the rotor diameter to 320mm, thus providing greater braking leverage. In order to accomodate the larger rotor, an adaptor is used to allow the existing caliper the proper clearance it needs. The product description says that replacing the brake line may also be necessary.

Before taking the leap of extra money spent, I thought it would be worthwhile to see if anyone in the club has any advice regarding this kit.

Thanks,

I'm the new owner of a battered R100T I'm purchasing from a co-worker.

I've never owned am airhead before, but I do own a 1978 and a 1986 Goldwing, so I'm not completely boxer illiterate. Before anyone gets excited, I know they're very different engines, that's why I'm here.

I do work at Tampa Bay Motos, so I have familiarity with the brand, but I've been in the industry for a while before I got to BMW.

Honestly, I've preferred the older bikes in any brand, and generally found the Airheads who stopped by my dealer to be good guys.

So. . . hi!
