My 1995 R100RT needs new front wheel bearing. I have the bearings on hand, and have searched the internet for procedures. Though I found little on mono-shock Airheads, I found several videos on R1100 / R1150, which are similar. Only possible issue I see with my RT is removal of the first wheel bearing. This is due to the presence of the spacer between both bearings, which may make it difficult to get a purchase on the shoulder of the bearing's inner race, to drive it out. Again, my only concern is the first bearing removal, since, once the 1st bearing is out, the spacer falls out, so the 2nd bearing is easy to knock out. Of course preheating is also needed for each hub, and I have a heat gun.

Snowbum said to use a specific brand blind hole puller (forgot the name), but also said any quality puller would do. I prefer not to buy said puller, for what is likely a one time use, so if possible wanna do this job without it. I am unsure if the spacer, between the bearings, can be shifted sideways enough to get a purchase on the inner race shoulder with a canted rod, or something similar. But, if possible, there should be no problem with that 1st bearing.

My QUESTION: has anyone here removed mono-shock Airhead front wheel bearings? If so, was a puller absolutely necessary? Or were you able to get the first bearing out without said puller? If so, please advise how you did it.

Thanks Much,

Joe H
