Loose float pin in Bing carb
Greetings fellow Airheads. I was stalled out on my 1971 R75/5 project for several years, but back at it again.
I've picked up a pair of /6 Bing carbs (64/32/9 & 64/32/10) to replace the original carbs. I'm ordering parts to rebuild them. Unfortunately, the pin that keeps the floats in place, are loose. The knurled end of the pin slides all the way through the tabs. I did some searching in Snowbum's articles but could not find a recommended fix.
Does anyone have any suggestions for tightening up the cast tabs so the float pin will stay in place?
Thanks,

I'd try some JB Weld epoxy to build up the hole. Then you could open it back to size using a numbered drill bit in 24 hours.
Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.

That's a good idea, thanks.
Another possibility since the knurling on the pin is just an interference fit, I could gently peen the knurling to make it wider in one axis so it is snug in the enlarged hole.
I'm comfortable with installing a rebuild kit, but I noticed the throttle plate was not well positioned.
I have no idea what Hell these carbs have been through before I got them.
I've reached out to Bing about refurbishing these old /6 carbs too.
I agree with the peening idea. A precise whack on the tip of the pin should do it. JB Weld is great stuff, and is rated as “fuel resistant”, but I’m not so sure it would survive perpetually submerged in fuel.
