Hello friends. The steering lock on my ‘78 R100 has not functioned for many years. I’ve tried WD40, etc., to no avail. The key inserts fine, and wiggles back and forth freely, but will not rotate to the unlock position. I know I can buy a new lock and key, but will I be able to remove the old one if it will not rotate? How do I remove the lid? Thanks, Dave in TX

I found an answer to my own question. This Duane Ausherman article has some nice detail on removing a steering lock that can not be turned with a key. Thanks to Duane! Thought I would share in case someone has a similar problem.
