Has anyone purchased anything recently from Motorrad Elektrik? I ordered a 280 watt charging system upgrade kit for my /5 on 11/12. I decided to get a coil as well, so I added that to the order. He said that the parts should get to him the next week and then he’d ship them out to me. Weeks went by and I never received anything. I reached out to him, and he sent me the coil, but not the charging kit. When I asked about it, he didn’t seem to remember that I had ordered the kit and tried to charge me again. I sent him the PayPal receipt and he said that he would ship it out the next week. That was a month ago and I still don’t have the kit, nor have I received any updates. I’m not angry or anything, I’m a bit worried about the guy (and naturally a little frustrated). Anyone deal with him recently? Is he ok? Or is this normal for him, he's really busy, and I should keep being patient? I have a heated garage and a lot of work to do on this bike before spring. I had hoped to already be well into it.

• To be fair, the South has recently experienced back-to-back bouts of bad weather. An ice storm, followed days later by a snow storm, and of course very low temps with power outages during both. Northerners chuckle, but this is something that happens so rarely down here that you can proabably count all the snow plows in Dixie on one hand. That might explain the backlog.

• As their web site says, "Rick Jones has been riding, working and living on BMW Motorcycles for over 30 years. Motorrad Elektrik has, since 1989, been servicing the needs of BMW riders all over the world." So by now, Rick must be in his 80's. So I'd be inclined to save all receipts and simply be patient. Of all the possible scenarios, an attempt to willfully or knowingly deceive would be the lowest thing on the list.

Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.

I’ve purchased quite a few items, and received lots of very good advice from Rick Jones over the years. Hope he is doing OK. Certainly one of the “good guys”.  It’s been about 5 years though, since our last conversations - dealing with Alpha Ignition module troubles. If I remember correctly, he and I are very close in age and I’m 70.  Isn’t Rick still an AirMarshal as well?

To answer my own question, Rick Jones is still in the directory as a club member, but no longer listed as an AirMarshal. He used to be!

PS: You might contact The BeemerShop (Ted Porter) out in CA.  I believe Rick gets some of his stuff through Ted, who is the importer. Ted has been plagued with challenges as an importer with the changes to tariffs and import regulations.

@wobbly Yeah, I figured he is getting up there in age. That's why I have been as patient as possible with him, but three months is a long time to be waiting for parts, especially with no updates. I guess I'll just keep waiting and eventually someday I'll be able to finish my /5 whether I finally get the parts I paid for or I have to bite the bullet and pay someone else for it and call this a loss. Oh well. I imagine trying to get a refund would be even more difficult than this.
