/2 Throttle Twist Grip Index Mark
The throttle twist grip on my '66 R69S does not have an index mark on the gear teeth to show where it needs to mate up with the cam that pulls the throttle cables. Is there a standard place within the 10 gear teeth were the index mark should be?
I'm not aware of any marks on any vintage Airhead twist grips.Â
You'll want to pull all the slack out of the 2 throttle cables, then mate the 2 geared parts in such as way that the cables retain ~1mm of slack when the twist grip is rolled all the way to the "throttle OFF" position.Â
* Without the minimum cable slack, the cables will control the slide heights at idle (and not the idle screws).
* But with too much cable slack, the slides will only rise part of the way and "full throttle" opening can never be reached.
It's aggravating, I know. But play with it a bit. You'll find it.Â
Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
