My left pad finally fell off yesterday and the right side doesn't look too far behind.

I've decided to go with the 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive (cheap and convenient) for reapplication and had a couple questions regarding prep for installation.

What tools or chemicals are recommended for removing the old adhesive from the tank and pad? Are there any special tips or tricks?

It seems pretty straightforward but Im being extra cautious because the tank paint is in very good condition and I don't wanna clown it up.

3M Weatherstrip is great, but messy stuff. I'd highly recommend clear silicone adhesive/sealer. It will take slightly longer to set (use blue painters tape to hold it in place), but any leaks or boo-boos peal right off.

Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.

Acetone is my solvent of first resort. But be aware, I have never tried it on a painted surface.
