[#3301]

good afternoon,

many years ago, when I had my first /5, I was following several threads that were dealing with motor oil choices for these fine machines. If I recall correctly, there was mention of a Brand, Spectro, that had properties that are better suited for the aging seals, don't want to call it "swelling" the seals but perhaps might slow leaks. Is it wishful thinking or am I correct in recalling that fact?

I just got another R60/5 and want to change all fluids, after giving it a good bath, and if Spectro indeed can help with minor leaks, I sure would use it.

Thanks in advance, again

Hi

not sure about seal swelling stuff after riding my gs for 30 years, of all the oil used vr1 to mobil 1 I settled with castrol gtx 20\50 only fill to 1\2 way up dip stick. If I fill it to the max level seam to drink more oil. cheers

Yes, "seal softeners" is an additive the maker adds to modern oils. I saw it once on my brother's Oil Head. We changed his final drive oil to Mobil-1 and it was soon all over the rear wheel. We changed it to Valvoline and it stopped just as suddenly as it started.

Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.

Seal swelling - you need an Aquatic Veterinarian.

(Sorry, couldn’t resist)
